When we were kids, we would make these simple instruments out of yogurt cups. We would take two empty cups, put some rice in and tape it all together. Did you do this too? I guess those were some sort of maracas if you like. But today I’ve got an upgrade for you. I am going to show you how to make DIY pineapple maracas. Yup, pineapple.

I came up with this idea a few weeks ago when my brother brought over some AriZona Iced Tea (this is not a sponsored post, by the way, haha). I looked at those bottles and thought there must be something to make of them.

And so I did. With some trial and error, I figured out how to make DIY pineapple maracas. To save you the trouble of trying to get exact sizes of the pieces, I even made you a pattern printable. So this will be super easy, I promise.

To make your maracas you will need:

  • Two clean and dry AriZona Iced Tea plastic bottles (16.9oz)*
  • Self-adhesive colored paper in green and yellow
  • The DIY Pineapple Maracas printable (to download follow the instructions at the end of this article)
  • Super glue
  • Rice

    * You can use other plastic bottles if you like, but you will have to adjust the sizes of the paper pieces to fit your bottles.

Print out the printable on the back side of the self-adhesive paper. The diamond pattern will form the fruit (print those on yellow sticky paper) and the rectangles and circle will form the leaves (print them on green sticky paper).

Cut out all your pieces with scissors or an Xacto knife.

Stick the yellow pieces. We found the easiest way is to start along the bottom of the bottle. Then, stick two columns vertically along the plastic ‘stiches’ on the bottle. Finally, stick the remaining pieces.

Stick the green pieces on the neck of the bottle. The green circle goes on the cap.

Put a handful of rice into the bottle.

Put a tiny amount of super glue on the edge of the bottleneck. Close the cap.

Repeat with the second bottle.

Ta-daaa! This is how to make DIY pineapple maracas!
